Zhengde Road is the main entrance avenue of theXili Campus(Xili Lake Area)and also serves as the central axis of thecampus area. Its name is derived from The Book of Documents from Shangshu(Counsels of the Great Yu):“to rectify virtue and promote the well-being of the people,”, meaning to fully develop human nature to cultivate moral virtue, and to fully develop the nature of things to cultivate their proper function. Naming it“Zhengde”aims to encourage faculty, staff, and students to prioritize moral virtue in their lives and to solidify the foundation for fostering virtue and educating people. As the primary route into the campus, it also symbolically guides the community to base their actions on virtue, to let virtue guide their academic goals, and to use moral principles to govern their professional development, enabling them to fulfill the responsibilities of the era and uphold responsibility to society.
